Hotel Review: Le Berbère Palace, Ouarzazate, Morocco

One of the most attractive and well-equipped hotels I’ve visited in North Africa is Le Berbère Palace.

Built in a Kasbah style, the hotel has 240 comfortable, air conditioned guestrooms with in-room facilities that include a desk, a minibar, and a separate sitting area.

The modern bathrooms include bathrobes and slippers, complimentary toiletries, and hair dryer. Wireless high-speed Internet access is complimentary. The hotel combines high quality service with plenty of authentic Berber decorations, crafts, and artifacts. It also has, especially in the public areas, Egyptian-looking decor.

Dining facilities at Le Berbere Palace include three indoor/outdoor restaurants, a cafeteria, and of course, room service. They offer French, Italian, and classic Moroccan cuisine, especially flavorful cold salads and a dessert buffet that is second to none.

Other hotel amenities are a gift shop/newsstand, hair salon, library, patio, tennis courts, and a nightclub.

There is a delightful outdoor swimming pool, and guests can enjoy spa/wellness facilities, as well as a sauna and traditional Moroccan hammam.

The garden is spectacular with multiple seating areas and is decorated with copies of ancient Greek and Roman sculptures. The rooms are in building complexes separate from the main structure, while the main building is devoted to only the public areas, restaurants, offices, etc.

Ouarzazate is known as the Gateway to the Sahara and also as Hollywood Africa because it’s where numerous films have been shot. So there is a movie studio in town.

In short, this hotel is an oasis on the doorstep of the desert. We only stayed there one evening, but it was enough to appreciate what the property has to offer.

Hotel Review: Mövenpic Mansour Eddahbi, Marrakech, Morocco

The Mövenpick Mansour Eddahbi Marrakech, an ACCOR hotel, is a business hotel that seems to be geared mostly toward corporate meetings and business travel. It’s an outstanding facility for that type of business, but I’m not sure an individual leisure traveler would really be very happy being among a throng of corporate meeting attendees. Having said that, we enjoyed our stay there.

Condado Ocean Club Puerto Rico Blends Oceanfront Calm with Social Energy

There is a reason certain hotels become destinations unto themselves. It is not always because they are the largest, the flashiest, or the most over-the-top luxurious. More often, it comes down to atmosphere. A feeling. An energy that travelers immediately recognize the moment they arrive. In San Juan’s stylish Condado district, Condado Ocean Club has mastered exactly that.
